What is directing?!
Kate fell into yet another easy fit for her humor, attentiveness, and creativity when she took on directing shows she had written for herself. Soon other people with autobiographical shows were seeking her out for help in their developmental process and asking her to take on the lofty title of “director”. Eventually, Kate took her directorship to sketch comedy and short films. TS Elliot once wrote, “they who claim to direct, must be egoless in order to respect the artists’ muse and seek her gifts. It occurs to me then that, perhaps those who do not claim to direct outrightly, shall empower more freely, and garner that mystical and perfect intervention in more gusto”. This certainly applies to Kate.
We made up that TS Elliot quote. Sorry for lying to you.
Let the Queen of one-person shows workshop, direct, and tough love your one-person show.
Take a look at this very professional woman! She’s wearing a blazer! Well, Kate has earned that blazer, by writing, producing, and directing 4 successful plays herself, to international tours and rave reviews. And, thanks to a little help from her stand-up comedy career, she’s gotten to perform them with the profound ease and humor that has taken her to SF Sketchfest, Oak City Comedy Fest, The Marsh Theatre, and beyond.
Now, she wants to help you do the same. Do you have an idea for a story, but don’t know how to approach it with the written word? Maybe it's the performance itself you want notes on. Maybe you have a full show, but the arc is sort of lost on your friends and family members. Sounds like they suck!
But, still, bring your show, pieces of a show, or just a bunch of ideas to Kate, and see how far she help you take them.
